Rural & Farm Connections — Power, Water & Bores

Underground services for farms and lifestyle blocks across Franklin, North Waikato and rural Auckland

Since 2015Own locators, hydro-vac & diggersAuckland · Franklin · North Waikato

What it is

Power and water for lifestyle blocks and farms: long underground power runs to sheds and pumps, water mains from bores and tanks to troughs and irrigation, and repairs to the lines already in the paddock.

When you need it

  • A new shed, sleepout or pump house is hundreds of metres from the switchboard.
  • A bore needs both a water main and power to the pump.
  • Trough lines keep cracking, getting crushed or chewed through.

What you get

  • Cable and pipe laid deep enough to survive stock and machinery.
  • Pump connected, pressure balanced and isolation valves where you need them.
  • The run mapped so the next fence or tee goes in without a strike.
Rural utility services — farm water and power connections

Complete Connection for Rural Properties

Rural properties need the same underground services as a town section, just over far greater distances and through much less forgiving ground. Utility Works installs the power and water that keep farms and lifestyle blocks running across Franklin, the Waikato District and the rural edges of Auckland: long-run underground power cable to sheds and sleepouts, farm water mains from bores and tanks, and the trenching across paddocks that ties it together.

Before any of it, we locate what is already in the ground. Most farms carry decades of unmapped trough lines, old power feeds and effluent pipes, and the cheapest strike is the one that never happens.

What’s included

What a rural connection job can cover

Power

  • Long-run underground power

Mains from the boundary or switchboard to sheds, sleepouts and pump houses — often hundreds of metres.

  • Rural shed power connections

Workshops, implement sheds, milking sheds and coolstores on a reliable feed.

  • Bore pump power

Supply to the pump, laid in conduit — usually in the same trench as the water.

  • Arena and yard lighting

Underground supply and column footings, cable out of harm’s way.

Water

  • Bore and tank reticulation

Gravity or pumped mains from bores, tanks and dams across the whole property.

  • Stock troughs

New trough lines, extra troughs on subdivided paddocks, repairs to crushed or chewed feeds.

  • Farm irrigation

Mainline and laterals for pasture, orchard and market-garden irrigation, laid to survive machinery.

  • Trenching across paddocks

Our diggers and hydro-vac handle long runs through clay, peat and wet ground.

FAQ'S

How far can you run underground power to a shed or sleepout?
Several hundred metres is routine on rural properties in Franklin and North Waikato. The practical limit is set by voltage drop, so the cable is sized for the length of the run and the load at the far end rather than the other way around. We trench and lay the mains, and your electrician or the network company handles the final connection.
Can you put water and power in the same trench?
Yes, where the layout suits. Running the bore pump cable and the water main together saves a second trench across the paddock. The services are separated and laid at the correct depths with the cable in conduit, and the trench is recorded on the survey plan so both are easy to find later.
Do I need to locate existing services on a farm before trenching?
We strongly recommend it. Rural properties accumulate water lines, old power feeds, effluent pipes and phone cables over decades, and very few are mapped. We trace what is in the ground before the digger starts, which is far cheaper than repairing a severed trough line or a live cable halfway through the job.
Do you work on lifestyle blocks as well as working farms?
Yes. A large share of our rural work is on lifestyle blocks around Pukekohe, Waiuku, Pōkeno and the Waikato District: power to a new shed or sleepout, water from a bore or tank to the house and a few troughs, and arena lighting. The same crew and gear handle a two-hectare block or a working dairy farm.
Which rural areas do you cover?
We are based at Waiau Pa in Franklin and cover rural Auckland, the Franklin district including Pukekohe, Waiuku, Patumahoe, Bombay and Tuakau, and North Waikato through Pōkeno, Mercer, Te Kauwhata and Huntly. Call 0800 779 588 to talk through your property.
