That one is usually yours, and it can be put underground. This guide covers what a conversion involves, who does which part, what decides the cost for a house, a lifestyle block and a subdivision, how long the lines company takes, and when it is worth doing.

Installing Power to a Shed or Sleepout in Rural Auckland and Waikato: Cost, Cable, Consents and Process

Installing Power to a Shed or Sleepout in Rural Auckland and Waikato: Cost, Cable, Consents and Process

Running power to a shed, sleepout, pump or workshop sounds like a day with a trencher and a reel of cable. The cable is the easy part. Getting the size right over a long rural run, keeping the trench legal and findable, deciding whether the building itself needs consent, and sequencing the electrician and the digger so nobody waits are what make the difference between a connection that works for forty years and one that trips every winter. This guide covers all of it, including what decides the cost in Auckland, Franklin and the Waikato.

Power — FAQ'S

Do you do the electrical connection too?
We do the underground work — locating, trenching, ducting and laying the cable — and work alongside your electrician for the final connection and livening. If you don’t have one, we can recommend electricians we work with regularly.
Can you convert my overhead power to underground?
Yes. We trench and lay the new cable from the pole or pillar to the house, coordinate the changeover with your lines company and electrician, and reinstate the ground afterwards.
How far can you run power underground on a rural property?
Long runs are routine for us. The cable is sized for the distance and the load so the far end gets the voltage it needs, and we lay it in duct so it can be replaced or upgraded later without re-trenching.
