Power, water, gas and comms — connected, underground

Not sure what you need?

Most people aren’t — and you don’t have to be. Tell us what you’re seeing and we’ll tell you what it needs, before anyone turns up with a digger. People usually describe one of these:

  • A new build or subdivision
  • Leaks that keep coming back on the same main
  • Low pressure, or an old galvanised / AC main
  • A shed, sleepout or pump with no power
  • Overhead lines you want underground
  • A farm water or irrigation system to connect

A few jobs people ask for

Some of the things we get called about

Not a full list — just the requests that come up most. If yours isn’t here, it almost certainly still is something we do.

  • Builders · developers

Ducts & pits for fibre and future services

Conduit and pits laid while the trench is open — from the boundary pit to the house — so fibre, power or irrigation can be pulled through later without digging again.

  • Rural · lifestyle blocks

Bore power & water in one trench

Power out to the bore pump and water back to the house or tank, laid together and mapped.

  • Homeowners

    EV charger supply

Underground cable from the board to the garage, carport or a rural shed, sized for the charger you’re actually fitting.

  • Homeowners · farms

    Overhead to underground

Poles and lines removed, cable trenched to the house and reconnected — tidier, safer, and no more tree trimming.

  • Homeowners · rural

Water to a new section or tank

A new main from the street or a bore to a second dwelling, a sleepout or a header tank — see Water Mains Installation & Replacement.

  • Something else?

If it’s underground and it carries power, water, gas or comms, there’s a good chance we do it. Describe the job and we’ll tell you straight.

Why Utility Works

Finds it. Digs it. Fixes it.

Most locating companies hand you a map and leave. Most contractors dig first and hope. We do the whole job with one team.

One crew, start to finish

Locators, hydro-vac truck and diggers on the same team. The people who find it are the people who fix it — no second contractor, no re-marking.

Non-invasive first

Acoustic correlators, GPR, pipe tracing and potholing find the answer before anything is dug. We only open ground where we have to.

Local since 2015

Based at Waiau Pa — most of Franklin, South Auckland and North Waikato is under an hour away, and we know the ground and the councils.

Certified locators, done properly

Our locators hold NZ Certified Locator certification, so you get compliant methods, accurate marks and a survey plan of what went where — and the surface left so you’d never know we were there.

How it goes

From your first call to a finished job

  1. Tell us what needs connecting

Power, water, gas, comms — or all of them. New build, shed, pump or subdivision. We scope it and quote it.

  2. We trench and lay

Existing services located first, then ducts, cable or pipe laid along the safest route, by trench or directional drill.

  3. Live, tested, mapped

Connections made and commissioned, ground reinstated, and a survey plan of where everything went for your records.

A closer look

Still not sure which one? Here’s each in more depth.

Water Mains Installation & Replacement

Water Mains Installation & Replacement

From single dwellings to full subdivisions we install, renew and upsize water mains — from the street connection to the building, including bore and tank supplies for properties off the town network.

Existing services are located first, the route trenched or drilled (hydro-vac near anything sensitive), the new main laid, chlorinated and pressure-tested, valves and meter fitted, and the ground reinstated. The paperwork councils and project specs ask for comes with it.

Good for

  • New builds and subdivisions
  • Old galvanised or AC mains that keep failing
  • Upsizing for pressure
  • Bore, tank and pump supplies
Valve, Hydrant & Meter Replacement

Valve, Hydrant & Meter Replacement

Sometimes it’s not the pipe. A seized isolation valve, a toby that won’t turn, a weeping hydrant, a meter box that’s been driven over — we replace and install the fittings that control and measure your supply.

We locate the existing service first, isolate it, swap the fitting and test it, with the ground reinstated afterwards. Often done in the same visit as a leak repair or a mains renewal.

Good for

  • Valves and tobies that won’t isolate
  • Hydrant testing, repair and replacement
  • New or replacement water meter boxes
  • Multi-unit sites needing sub-meters
Power Cable Installation

Power Cable Installation

Underground mains power from the boundary or pole to wherever it’s needed — a new home, a workshop, a bore pump, an EV charger — including converting overhead lines to underground. We locate existing services, trench or drill the route, lay the cable in duct and leave it ready for the electrician to connect.

Long runs across rural properties are a specialty: we size the route and the cable so the far end actually gets the voltage it needs.

Good for

  • New connections and upgrades
  • Sheds, sleepouts, pumps and chargers
  • Overhead-to-underground conversions
  • Long rural runs
New Build Utility Installations

New Build Utility Installations

A new build needs power, water, gas and comms brought from the street to the house — ideally in one trench, at the right stage, without holding up the builder. We coordinate with your electrician, plumber and the network companies and install the lot.

For subdivisions we install the reticulation and connections for every lot, with as-built mapping for the council.

Good for

  • New homes and minor dwellings
  • Subdivisions and multi-lot developments
  • Builders wanting one trench, one crew
  • Compliance and as-built records
Rural & Farm Connections

Rural & Farm Connections

Farms and lifestyle blocks are their own world: bores and tanks instead of mains, troughs and irrigation across paddocks, sheds and arenas a long way from the switchboard. We design and install the water and power runs that make it all work.

We locate what’s already buried — old farm services are rarely mapped — then trench, lay, connect and hand you a plan of where everything is.

Good for

  • Bore and tank water systems
  • Troughs, irrigation and farm reticulation
  • Power to sheds, pumps and arenas
  • Lifestyle block subdivisions
