A long way from Auckland’s contractors. Not from us.

Thames and the Hauraki Plains sit outside most Auckland and Hamilton operators’ comfortable range, and the ones who do travel usually come to locate and leave. Utility Works runs the other way: we come with the locators, the hydro-vac truck and the digger on one trip, so the leak that’s found gets fixed, the service that’s marked gets potholed, and the ground gets put back — without a second contractor or a second visit.

The ground out here is its own challenge. Peat and reclaimed alluvium on the Plains move with the seasons and work pipe joints loose; Thames’ older streets carry a century of unmapped laterals and abandoned mains. Both reward a crew that locates first and digs once.

Thames, Paeroa or the Plains — tell us the job and we’ll fit you into the next run.

FAQ'S

Do you really come out to Thames?
Yes. Thames, Paeroa, Ngatea and the Hauraki Plains are part of our regular run — it’s a bit over an hour from our Waiau Pa yard. We bring the locators, the hydro-vac truck and the digger on the same trip, so we don’t need to come back to finish a job.
Is there a call-out charge for the Hauraki area?
We quote the whole job up front, travel included, so there are no surprises. For leak detection we try to group Hauraki visits so the cost to you stays sensible — tell us if the job can wait a few days and we’ll fit it with others out that way.
Can you find leaks on peat and reclaimed ground?
Yes — it’s common on the Plains. Peat moves, pipes flex and joints weep, and a leak can surface a long way from where it is. Acoustic correlation and pipe tracing find the actual point of loss rather than where the water shows up.
Who owns the pipe from the road to my house in Thames?
Generally the council-owned main and the meter or toby at the boundary are the council’s; the private lateral from there to the house is yours. Check with Thames-Coromandel or Hauraki District Council for your property — if it’s on your side, we find it and fix it.
Do you do the whole job or just the locating?
The whole job. That’s the difference out here: most operators who travel to the Coromandel locate and leave. We locate, excavate, repair or install, and reinstate the surface with one crew.
